Cosplay

Cosplay is a portmanteau of “costume” and “play,” referring to the practice of dressing up as a character from a film, television show, book, comic, video game, or other media. Participants, known as cosplayers, often create or purchase elaborate costumes that closely resemble the outfits worn by the characters they portray. Cosplay can also involve adopting the character’s mannerisms, behaviors, and speech patterns, effectively performing as that character. The phenomenon originated in Japan but has since spread globally, becoming popular at conventions, competitions, and social gatherings. Cosplay celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and fandom, with enthusiasts often showcasing their work through photography, social media, and events.
