Tennis

Tennis is a racquet sport played between either two players (singles) or two teams of two players each (doubles). The game is played on a rectangular court divided by a net. Players use a tennis racquet to hit a lightweight, hollow rubber ball covered with felt over the net into the opponent’s side of the court. The objective is to score points by landing the ball in the designated service boxes or play areas on the opponent’s side, making it difficult for the opponent to return the ball.

Tennis is played in various formats, such as best of three or five sets, and points are scored in a unique manner, starting from “love” to “fifteen,” “thirty,” “forty,” and then winning the game. The sport can be played on different surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts, each affecting the game’s speed and style. Tennis is governed by a set of rules and regulations established by organizations like the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). It is known for its competitive nature and is popular worldwide, with major tournaments such as Wimbledon, the US Open, the French Open, and the Australian Open being part of the Grand Slam series.
